I've decided that I love old people. I work at a few different senior centers to help them with any pharmacy questions they may have and trying to inform them about certain health care issues. Today I was telling them about influenza and getting the flu vaccine. One lady came up to me and told me how beautiful I was. It was so cute. And I had another lady tell me that she liked my voice. Definitely made me smile.

Saturday was game day! We had a scrimmage against UMASS Dartmouth. It was slightly rainy and cool in the morning which is perfect rugby weather. The boys team was supposed to have put the uprights together and put them up for us but they didn't so we ended up having to do that before the game. The game started really well. We basically dominated the entire game. They barely made it past half field the whole time. I ended up scoring twice, once on a penalty play and once on an 8-man pick-up. Despite having about 35 girls, everybody got to play. By the end of the game all rookies were out on the field. They did allow one try but otherwise they played great. Definite potential. Final score 27-5.
After the game, coaches and legends ended up at Willows per usual. Good times over beers and food. We even discussed Dr. Turk's lack of style and lack of clothing haha, but thankfully handsome Mike agreed to have a talk with him. And then little Maddie made me and AMS share a brownie sundae with her. Definitely an great way to celebrate the first win of the season.
Then it was back home to enjoy the hot tub and it felt oh so good on my sore body. I'm clearly going to be making a habit out of that. I ended up not doing much for the rest of the day. I had a headache so I just relaxed.

Sunday and Monday I spent doing a bunch of work for my rotation. Monday night I had practice but I didn't really feel well. I thought that maybe I had strep throat. So after practice I went up to health services and they took my blood and tested it for mono and it came back positive. I was so upset. Since I have mono I can't play rugby and this would have been my last year to play. So not only to I physically feel like crap, I'm also depressed. Life totally sucks sometimes. One positive note was that I got out of going to work this morning at the HIV clinic.

I went fishing today with Augie and Jamie. I wasn't having much luck and the boys were totally out fishing me. Then on my last cast of the day I reeled in a 24 inch, 5 and 1/2 pound large mouth bass!! It was one huge fish. I was so excited. I took a couple pictures of it on my cell phone and I made it my new wallpaper so I can look at my accomplishment every day haha.

Jon, Augie and myself went off-roading last night!! We went around 11:30pm under the full moon (or almost full moon). It was awesome. We went on this tiny dirt road with huge ruts and pot holes and random puddles full of swampy water. There were quite a few times when we hit these "puddles" that we couldn't see anything at all (but that's part of the fun). And we kept from getting stuck....this time. Definitely a good time!! And then afterwards we went and washed the mud off the jeep so that I could see clearly out of the windshield.

Cori and I had a girl's night out last night. We had much to discuss haha. So we went out to Blackthorn, kind of a dive but we just wanted some place to sit and have a couple drinks and be able to talk. But when we walked in there wasn't too many other people in there. And of course two older creepy drunk guys came over and tried to have a conversation with them. That always makes for an interesting night. These guys apparently had a campsite at Blackthorn and they told Cori and I that they were going to be partying it up after they left the bar. And we were more than welcome to join them haha. That was a definite no! So good times in East Durham as always!

Today, my mom and I had a nice day shopping. I got lots of new clothes...hurray hahaha.

And tomorrow is the big day!!

So this past weekend was Memorial Day Weekend and also happens to be the 30th annual Irish Festival!! Both of those combined equals a great time! On past occasions I have managed to attend the festival Friday, Saturday and Sunday night; however, this year I was only able to go on Saturday night. That just meant that I had to make the most of it in one night. And that is exactly what I did.
Saturday afternoon I went up to my friend Dan's house to get the party started. A bunch of my friends were all there hanging out. So we played a little horseshoes and drank some beers. Then we played a little Wii. I've never played it before but it was soo much fun. We played Wii bowling. Normally I'm a horrible bowler but apparently I'm a great video game bowler. Then we headed up to the irish fest. Great irish music and beer is a fantastic combination, especially when you get into the festival for free and you don't spend any money at all. Hurray for free drinks. Then it was on the bars to finish up the evening. And again free drinks. Plus I got to see old friends that I haven't seen in years. So about 2am or so we decided to call it a night. It was a great way to officially start off the summer. Unfortunately I had to work on Sunday but only for a couple hours so it wasn't too bad. After work I went out on Green Lake with the boys and Cori. We had 3 canoes and went fishing. No luck though with that though. Out of 9 of us only 2 fish were caught haha. But either way it was extremely relaxing and so nice to be out in the fresh air. Though our time was cut short by a thunderstorm that rolled in.

That was my weekend in a nutshell because I had to work on Monday so I didn't have a three day weekend :(

I am so close to being done with school. I have one more test tomorrow, unfortunately I am so unmotivated to study.(It doesn't help that I calculated my grade and I can get a 28 on the test and still pass the class). The weather has been so nice out lately and I am tired of being inside studying. Yesterday I took a wonderful study break. My roommate and I went to a Cinco de Mayo barbeque. So much fun. Played some bocce ball, which I seem to have a forte for haha, had a delicious strawberry daquiri, ate some delicious food and then finished off by playing some Guitar Hero. I think that is one of the best games ever invented haha. I'm horrible at it but it is so addicting.

Less than 24 hours and I will be finished.

After winning the New England Championship in the fall, our team got invited to play in the National Championship. So on Friday we headed down to Philly. We took a charter bus which was nice cause no one had to worry about driving and it was big enough for everyone to ride comfortably. There was 28 of us. (23 players, 4 coaches and the club sports director). The bus ride down was amazing. Our coaches had this box of crazy hats and they handed one out to each of us. We had to wear them anytime we got off the bus, so at reststops and such. Then we had to take a bus quiz that included multiple choice, short answer and one essay question. It was very entertaining. I got the third highest score out of everyone and I won a t-shirt. We also had a bonus essay question if we wanted and there would be prizes for the winners. I was feeling creative so I participated. And we also watched Remember the Titans...very inspirational. We got down to the hotel about 10:30 or so. I shared a room with Elise, Annmarie, and Ashley. Unfortunately the beds were pretty tiny but we managed.

Since our game wasn't until 3 went into Philly to do some sight seeing and we had to wear our crazy hats. On the way we hit some traffic so to help pass the time we watched some Family Guy.(such a quality show) We went to the "Rocky" stairs aka the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Of course we had run up them and then have our picture taken at the top. We even got a touristing Asian family to get in the picture with us. At the top there is imprints of Rocky's shoes and nearby there is a huge statue of him. So we had our picture taken in front of the statue and again we had some random dude get into the picture with us. He looked homeless, had about 3 teeth and was selling shirts and hats that said "Rocky" on them. Clearly we were overcome with "Brotherly love". Then it was off to the field to get ready for the game but of course we got lost. I think it took us over a half hour to finally get to the field and we ended up needing a police escort haha.
So we played Ursinus College. We got a really slow start. For some reason we weren't playing up to our potential but we turned it around in the second half. Personally I think I played a horrible game but it doesn't matter because we won the game 36-5 and became National Champions and that's the most important thing. My parents even came down from NY to watch which was awesome. We had ordered brand new jerseys just for the occasion so we got to sport them as well. We won in style, literally. The only downside was the fact that I lost my voice. Apparently I yelled a lot during the game. I don't really remember yelling that much but my mom said that anytime she heard anyone yelling on the field it was me haha.
The bus ride home was much more enjoyable since we had won. We watched Wedding Crashers, and Boondock Saints on the way home. Plus our coaches handed out small gifts to every girl just for fun. I got sidewalk chalk haha. And I won the second essay contest so I got a key chain haha.

Then on Sunday I spent much of the day studying but later that night we had a get together at our coach's house to celebrate. There was food and a keg aka a fantastic time. We got little gag gifts for our coaches and flowers for the wives. I still had no voice and everyone thought that was hysterical. And while I was there I made plans to live with my one coach next year while I'm doing rotations haha. His youngest kid is going away to college and he and his wife will have an empty nest so he said that I was more than welcome to stay with them. Oh and we ended up kicking the keg haha.

So basically I have had back to back weekends of rugby awesomeness!! And yesterday I finished my last day of classes EVER!! I have less than a week before I am finished!!

The best weekend just took place!! The largest collegiate rugby tournament happens every year in Portsmouth, RI and of course our team always participates. It was my fourth time playing in it and as usual it is the most intense thing ever, but also the greatest thing ever!!

We had two games on Saturday. We played Hamilton College(from out by Syracuse) at 11am. I checked out their website the night before our game and on paper they looked really good. They were undefeated in their fall season(just like us) and they beat one team 93-0. So I won't lie when I say that I was a little nervous. But as soon as the game started everything was fine. We ended up beating them pretty badly. The final score was 33-5 and I scored twice. But there was two bad injuries during the game. Two girls from Hamilton collided head on. They were both running towards each other to try to catch a ball and they weren't paying watching and they ran right into each other. Apparently the one girl broke her nose and got a mild concussion while the other girl broke her jaw had a much more severe concussion. And to make matters worse Hamilton had no subs so we lent them two of our girls just so they wouldn't have to forfeit.

Our second game of the day wasn't until 5pm so we got to watch other teams play including our men's team and the Hendricken boys. At 5, we played Wentworth College. They seemed a little more intense than Hamilton. But we were able to handle them too. The final score was 33 to 10.

After the games I went out to dinner with Blair and her dad. Of course we got to ride in the Escalade haha. We had some delicious seafood at George's and then I went home and passed out.

Since we won both games we advanced to the finals on Sunday. It was single elimination on Sunday so we were only guaranteed one game. We were matched up against University of Hartford. We were supposed to play them earlier this spring but they cancelled on us. Our coaches warned us ahead of time that they were pretty good. But clearly they weren't good enough haha. We beat them 14 to 7, though it was a very good game. And I scored in this game too.

Winning this game advanced us to the finals. I had made it to the finals 3 years ago but with no subs we weren't able to win. But this year was different. We played Holy Cross, who we have a personal vendetta against since they were sore losers the last time we played them. But since we won the last time we played them I assumed that they would be out to get us as well. Either way it was going to be a tough game...or so I thought. We ended up winning 29-0. I scored the first try on a sweet penalty play and it just went on from there. They never really had a chance. One of their players made a good run but Elise wrecked her haha.

So after 4 games in two days we were the BEAST of the EAST champions. We got this nice trophy and some crazy green trucker hats....class, class, class.

Later Sunday night we had a drink up with the men's team to celebrate!! We ended up kicking two kegs, and enjoyed some rugby songs. An excellent way to end a perfect weekend.

Recap of the last week or so....

I had two tests last week and I did well on them both.

Friday, Thumper and I went to Lowell, MA to watch Armor for Sleep, Underoath and Taking Back Sunday. It was an amazing show. Right before TBS came on Thumper and I pushed our way through the crowd so that we were only about 5 rows back from the stage. But it was insanely hot and we were getting crushed so we didn't stay too long. Then the problem was trying to get out of the crowd. On our way out I saw a guy carrying/dragging a passed out girl toward the side...craziness. Anyway it was awesome and TBS played all my favorite songs. Though I was sad that Armor for Sleep didn't play for longer especially cause I thought Underoath kinda sucked. Screaming doesn't really constitute singing to me. After the show I then drove all the way home to NY. I didn't get home till 3am but at least this time the weather wasn't bad.

Saturday I went out to breakfast with my mom. Then I attempted to be productive...so I finished my taxes, did some laundry, and then I watched tv for the rest of the afternoon haha. I went to Augie's for dinner with the boys, Morgan and Cori. Delicious food except for the dry meat and the crispy fries hahaha. Though while I was there I did have a moment of "insert foot in mouth". I asked Augie where his vicious attack dog was and he responded with "my dog is dead". I felt so bad. Afterwards I went down to Bill's house...good times as always.

Sunday. Got woken up after about 6 hours of sleep to the boys coming over...actually I got woken up by Jon singing to me hahaha. My mom made us all pancakes even without a kitchen cause she is good like that. Then I went to church with the family cause it was Easter. Afterwards I studied for a bit before Easter dinner with the all Skelly's. And then I had to leave early cause I had to drive back to school. I didn't end up getting back till about midnight cause I ran into some traffic along the way.

Monday. I skipped my first class to get a little more sleep and to have a little more time to study. Took my GI/Endo test which was a lot harder than I was expecting it to be. That just started my day off badly. The rest of the day basically sucked and I didn't really want to go to practice at all but I made myself go anyway. I'm not sure that was the best idea especially considering that I had to write a paper that was due the next day and I hadn't even started it yet. I didn't end up getting home till about 8 and I didn't get to start my paper till 9pm. I stayed up writing the paper till 12:30 and then went to bed.

Tuesday. At 6:30 I got back up to finish my paper and make a powerpoint presentation. I managed to get it all done by 8 and I went back to sleep for almost 2 hours before I had to get up and go to class. Then I skipped CORE to attend the Hendricken's boys practice. I tried to help them out a bit but I don't think they liked having a girl tell them what to do. After practice, me, Mo, AMS, Nate, Brian, Skip and Handsome Mike went to the local dive bar for some drinks and to discuss rugby. Such a great time!! And Nate ended up winning over 800 dollars on Keno. Then the three of us girls went back to Brian's house for dinner. We ended up staying there till almost 11pm.

Today. I went to my first two classes and then I decided I was too tired to make it through the rest of them. So far this week I have skipped 5 classes. I have such senioritis its ridiculous.

The rugby season has officially begun. Today we headed to the Coast Guard Academy in CT to play our first two games of the season. We played Trinity College first and then after a 20 minute break we faced Coast Guard. It was an intense day of rugby but it was great!! Its so awesome to be back in the swing of things. So we ended up beating Trinity College 20 to 0 but we lost to Coast Guard 7 to 5. Originally we were supposed to play Coast Guard first and then play Trinity second and I think if we had done that we would have won both games. But instead we had to play a fresh Coast Guard team after having played a full game already. But either way we played well in both games. And thankfully no one on our team got seriously hurt other than some bumps and bruises. I have a nice lump on my left hand and my right quad is really sore but nothing big. Oh how I love rugby!!

My spring break has come and gone. It was an awesome time though. Great Lakes, great times haha.
Sunday
Drove 9 1/2 hours to Michigan via Canada. (The first custom's officer that we dealt with was hot but the second dude was old and creepy).
Had a delicious steak dinner cooked by Blair's dad. Then finished the night off with some tetris action.
Monday
Relaxed basically all day long. It was amazing. Watched some crazy movie called The Puffy Chair. Another great day
Tuesday
Blair's dad drove us across the "mitten" in the Escalade to Lake Michigan. First off the Escalade is one redonkulous vehicle. It is huge and looks like a gangster vehicle that should not be driven by a skinny white man(aka Blair's dad). And I found out that OnStar is an amazing invention and I want it in my car, as well as a navigational system.
Ok so back to our adventure....we stopped at some river to see if we could see salmon swimming upstream through the lock but had no luck...instead we saw a dirty muskrat haha. A little heads up to anyone who has a desire to try "cheesy tots" from Burger King....Don't!
Lake Michigan was pretty sweet. Part of it was a huge glacier that of course we walked on and then after wards decided that it probably wasn't such a good idea because chucks of ice seemed to have recently broke off the part where we had been walking. We came close to witnessing some kid falling into the lake because he got too close to the edge and slipped but he managed to catch himself...which was probably a good thing because I don't know how he would have gotten back out. After we walked on the beach with "singing sand", we found a sand dune to climb which was extremely tiring. Stopped for dinner on the way home.
Wednesday
Another relaxing day. Hung around Blair's house for much of the day, then went to the park to play a little rugby. Then played a little basketball.
Thursday
I drove down to see my family for the day. And I was proud of myself for not getting lost at all. I met my uncle at his job first and got to see what that was all about...pretty interesting. Then I went on to their house. My cousins are so freaking smart. So I spent the day hanging out with my aunt and my two cousins until my uncle got home from work. Then my one cousin was in a play (Little Red Riding Hood) so we went and watched that. Her second grade class did the whole production. It was really cute. After wards I watched some college basketball.
Friday
Drove 9 1/2 hours back to my house because my two rugby games on Saturday were canceled. Went out to pizza with the family which was hilarious. Watched Anchorman....also hilarious
Saturday
Got woken up at 8am to some guy singing to the radio at the top of his lungs.....not cool at all. Then had to put up with his singing all day long while he worked on my mom's new kitchen.
Watched the Departed.....one of the best movies ever!! Hung out at the farm with the family. Played some basketball with the cousins in the haymow. Attempted to do my taxes...."attempted" being the key word. Played games( Break the Ice, Cootie Bug, and Scrabble...yes I am a huge loser) with Blair and watched some basketball.
Sunday
Got woken up again by the singing dude. But my mom made pancakes for breakfast(despite having no real kitchen) so everything was all good. The boys all stopped by to hang out for a little while. Blair and I then watched American History X. Such an intense movie but so good. Then drove back to school...at least this time it didn't take 10 hours.

Such a good break....extremely relaxing but sort of a tease because its back to reality. At least I only have about 5 more weeks of school. I can't wait for it to be over....I have senioritis. I actually extended my break just a little bit...I skipped my first two classes on Monday because I couldn't make myself get out of bed, haha oops.

So technically my spring break started Thursday after my one class ended at 4pm(and after I got a screw taken out of my tire) except that I had to work till 10pm. And normally I would have left right after work and drove straight home to NY but instead I had agreed to work Friday because I had to wait for Blair to get out of class anyway. When I woke up Friday morning there was about an inch of snow already on the ground. But the roads weren't that bad and I made it to work fine. Come to find out that classes were cancelled, but because I was at work Blair and I couldn't leave. Finally at 1:30, work lets me leave a half hour early. The roads on the way back to school weren't great but I managed. So I quick finished packing, had lunch with Thumper, and then went to campus and picked up Blair.
So here is the run down...
Blair and I left campus at 3:45. The weather in Rhode Island wasn't really bad but no one knows how to drive so that made the going really slow. But once we got into Massachusetts it all went downhill quickly. The conditions became blizzard like and my windshield wipers decided that they were tired of working. At one point my car ended up doing a 180 on the Mass Pike but my car stayed on the road and there were no other cars around so everything ended well in that respect. But I ended up having to stop about 10 times or so to bang ice off my wipers so that I could see. And while I was driving I had other vehicles passing me as if I was standing still. The worst was when tractor trailers were passing me. The whole trip was pretty scary. A couple times I was really tempted to just get off an exit and find a hotel for the night. I finally made it to my exit off the thruway. But when I was about 3 miles from my house my car got stuck on a road that was pretty much unplowed. I called my dad so he could come pick me up and while I was waiting the snow plow came along to plow the road that I was stuck on. I was pretty much in the middle of the road and I wasn't sure the plow was even going to be able to get around me. It did manage and then I thought he was just going to plow me in. But instead two guys got out of the truck and pushed/shoveled me out. Finally my dad showed up and instead of trying to drive my car up the hill to my house we ended up leaving it at the trooper barracks for the night. Then about three-quarters of the way up the hill the tires on my dad's car start to spin. Blair and I got out of the car and pushed it the rest of the way. At 1:45am...exactly 10 hours after leaving Rhode Island we got home to my house. The trip took 3 times as long as it normally takes.

Plus at my house we don't have a kitchen at the moment so that makes things more exciting. Its kinda like camping indoors. Though even without a kitchen my mom managed to make corn beef and cabbage because clearly it wouldn't be St. Patrick's Day otherwise.

So my hell week is finally over...well pretty close anyway. I had a full day of class on Monday with a test mixed in followed by rugby practice. Then I studied all night and got up early to continue studying. I ended up studying almost the entire day yesterday. Then I had an evening exam (which in my opinion is one of the worst things ever and should not be allowed). But clearly my opinion doesn't count haha. So I had my exam last night on Ischemic Heart Disease, Acute Coronary Syndrome, and Arrhythmias and all the drugs including their correct doses and side effects that treat these conditions. That basically adds up to one of the worst tests I have ever taken and I would not be at all surprised if I failed it. Which would be awesome considering that I started studying for that test about a week and a half ago. Then to make things worse after my evening exam last night I had to come back home and start studying all over again for the test that I had today. I was able to make myself study for about an hour and a half before I passed out(This was at about 10pm). But I made myself get up this morning at 4 to continue studying. I was able to handle that for a little while and then I went back to sleep for about an hour before I had to get up for real at 6:30. In my first class today instead of actually having a normal lecture we did Tai Chi. It was actually pretty entertaining and if we had had it at any other time of day I would have enjoyed it even more. Finally at 2 o'clock in my last class of the day I had my final exam of the week. It kinda sucked. It wouldn't have been so bad had I had more time to study but I'm pretty sure I passed it and that's all that matters. I'm tired of caring. I have senioritis haha. The new motto of my life is "D's get Degrees".

So basically since the last time I've updated all I have done is study, go to class, study, go to rugby practice, study, work and study. This coming Thursday starts my spring break and it can't come soon enough. I'm tired of school and I'm tired of studying. But I have to get through 3 tests and a quiz before that.

This morning I did end up going to the Hendricken boy's rugby practice. Nate, Brian, Skip, Patrick and Handsome Mike all coach up there so me, Mo, Blair, Karen, Jenny and Fo all went up to see how they do things up there. Plus we wanted to actually get to practice on something other than asphalt. Hendricken has a turf football field that they use for rugby and its a pretty sweet field. Though the turf isn't that soft...definitely not like real grass. Though it does have way more give than a parking lot. I think I ended up doing like a 100 push ups today....or at least I attempted to do that many. The boys are a little intense with the push ups. But over all a really fun time even when we split into forwards and backs and I was the only girl forward there. So that was nice and awkward hahaha. That's alright according to Nate and Skip I did the drill perfectly so that works for me. I'm so ready for our first game. Two weeks from today!!

Despite getting up early this morning, today wasn't such a bad day. I had physical assessment for about 4 hours. I had to do foot exams which was kinda gross because I'm not a big fan of feet. Other than my own I don't like being up close to feet haha. The rest of the afternoon was spent hanging out. We watched Stranger than Fiction and the Illusionist. Both turned out to be really good. Then it was dinnertime. I went out to eat with Amy, Kim and Dan. We went to Shogun...a sushi and hibachi restaurant. And it was soo good. We got to sit right up at a hibachi grill, so we got to be entertained while we ate. I will definitely be going back again.
